Job Summary

Loyola Marymount University seeks a highly skilled Communications Officer/Dispatcher to join its Department of Public Safety. This critical role requires a professional with excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the university community, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Operate and maintain public safety radio communications systems, ensuring seamless communication between departments and external agencies.
  • Monitor and process campus incidents, including emergency and routine calls for service, and dispatch public safety officers accordingly.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and response to incidents.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, reports, and data in a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to public safety and emergency response.
  • Provide training and support to colleagues on public safety protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in regular training and professional development to stay current with best practices and industry standards.
Requirements
  • Typically, a high school diploma is required; college coursework in police science, criminology, or a related field is preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience working in a higher education security, public safety agency, or law enforcement environment.
  • Experience utilizing public safety radio communications systems is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of compliance requirements under state and federal regulations as they pertain to gathering and disclosing data.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing situations.
Working Conditions

The Communications Officer/Dispatcher will work in a fast-paced environment, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, and may be required to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
