Job Summary

By Light Professional IT Services LLC is seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of Local Area Networks (LAN), Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), and Wide Area Networks (WAN) for the Department of Defense (DOD) at a facility in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the survey, design, installation, and integration of various federal and commercial systems, including network infrastructure and telecommunications equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and design packages, and install network equipment, including associated Cat5/CAT6 and fiber cable management equipment, in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct site surveys to support engineering/project management requirements for design, installation, integration, de-installation, and troubleshooting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Perform installation, deinstallation, and relocation activities, including copper and fiber cabling wiring systems, and associated hardware and software, to ensure seamless network operations.
  • Rack and stack patch panels, including grounding and power components, and associated network hardware components, to ensure efficient network operations.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with customers, identifying solutions and suggesting methods/techniques to improve system deployments, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of technical and management personnel to keep customers and management team informed of current progress, schedule concerns, and issues, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Verify receipt of all equipment/material received and resolve any deficiencies in product, serial number differences, and/or discrepancies in needed materials, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Inspect and review hardware installation, wiring, power, grounding, system database validation, and other activities to ensure quality installation of services, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Ensure proper installation of engineered design in accordance with drawings and engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Ensure all installation work is properly documented, and prepare as-built drawings and update required spreadsheets, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping.
Requirements:
  • Four (4) years' experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of electronic computer-based systems in the areas of voice and/or data transmission facilities, with a focus on network infrastructure and telecommunications equipment.
  • Four (4) years' experience with the installation of Telecommunications communications equipment, including hardware, relay racks, cabinets, termination, and testing of copper and fiber cable systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Ability to obtain BICSII Level II Copper and Fiber certification(s) within one year of hire, demonstrating commitment to professional development and industry standards.
  • Self-starter with ability to manage tasks, schedules, and work independently with little supervision, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, client service, and liaison skills, with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technical and management personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with customer interface experience, ensuring clear and concise communication of technical information.
  • Ability to multi-task and provide daily status/updates to program managers and customers, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with ability to create and edit technical documents and presentations.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and BICSI Standards, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Ability to terminate 568A & 568B, ensuring accurate and timely installation of network equipment.
  • Must own basic telecom tools, including a punch down tool with a 66/110 blade, snips, wire strippers, hammer drill, and basic hand tools, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Personal Protective Equipment, including Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, and hearing protection, ensuring a safe working environment.
Special Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to physically walk throughout the day and climb ladders, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs, work overhead from a ladder, and work below computer floors, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
