The County of Santa Barbara, CA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Custody Deputy to join our team. As a Custody Deputy, you will be responsible for maintaining custody and supervising the work and conduct of inmates in detention facilities. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively under stress and adapt to changes.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain custody and supervise the work and conduct of inmates in detention facilities
- Supervise the conduct of inmates during the booking process, in housing and at meals, during recreation and on work assignments
- Inspect credentials and incoming and outgoing mail
- Inspect living areas of inmates to ensure cleanliness, orderliness and compliance to jail regulations
- Exercise influence to modify anti-social behavior and attitudes of inmates
- Prevent escapes, injuries and the destruction of property; search for contraband; may receive and release prisoners
- Submit reports and prepare correspondence; type reports and letters, and transport prisoners and guards prisoners at hospitals and other off-site locations as directed
- Graduation from high school or passing of the G.E.D. test indicating high school graduation level
- Age: 18 years or older
- Good physical condition with the ability to pass a comprehensive medical examination based on County of Santa Barbara medical standards, and the ability to pass a job-related physical agility examination
- Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's license at time of appointment
- Within the probationary period, incumbents must successfully complete training in a Correction Officer Academy and any other training deemed necessary by the Sheriff's Department
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to stress and pressure. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations.
