Job Title: Custody Deputy

Job Summary:

The County of Santa Barbara is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Custody Deputy to join our team. As a Custody Deputy, you will be responsible for maintaining custody and supervising the work and conduct of inmates in detention facilities. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively under stress and adapt to changes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and instruct inmates in various activities, including maintenance, operational, and rehabilitative tasks
  • Ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors
  • Conduct searches for contraband and prevent escapes, injuries, and destruction of property
  • Prepare and submit reports, as well as type letters and reports
  • Transport prisoners and guards to hospitals and other off-site locations, as directed

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or passing of the G.E.D. test indicating high school graduation level
  • Age: 18 years or older
  • Good physical condition, with the ability to pass a comprehensive medical examination and a job-related physical agility examination
  • Ability to understand and follow laws, policies, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and adapt to changes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
