Job Title: Custody Deputy

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Custody Deputy to join our team at the County of Santa Barbara. As a Custody Deputy, you will be responsible for maintaining custody and supervising the work and conduct of inmates in detention facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and instruct inmates in various activities, including maintenance, operational, and rehabilitative tasks.
  • Ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors by enforcing jail regulations and policies.
  • Conduct searches for contraband and prevent escapes, injuries, and property damage.
  • Prepare and submit reports, and perform other administrative tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Good physical condition and ability to pass a comprehensive medical examination.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and adapt to changes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

The Custody Deputy will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to stress and potential safety risks. The position requires the ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
