Job Overview

Position Summary: We are looking for a committed and proficient Range Safety Officer to oversee the secure and efficient functioning of our shooting range facility. The Range Safety Officer will play a crucial role in implementing and enforcing safety measures, guiding participants, and effectively managing any emergencies that may occur. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in firearms safety, outstanding communication abilities, and a dedication to fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for all range users.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety Management: Uphold and enforce stringent safety regulations and protocols for all range activities. Supervise participants' adherence to safety guidelines and intervene when necessary to prevent unsafe actions.
  • Range Oversight: Monitor shooting sessions, ensuring that participants comply with range rules and protocols. Provide instruction on proper firearm handling, shooting methods, and equipment usage.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Be ready to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergencies, including medical incidents, equipment failures, or fires. Administer first aid as needed and coordinate with emergency services.
  • Training and Education: Conduct safety briefings and orientations for new users of the range. Provide educational resources on firearms safety, range operations, and emergency procedures.
  • Equipment Inspection: Regularly assess and maintain shooting range equipment, including target systems, safety barriers, ventilation systems, and protective gear.
  • Incident Documentation: Record all safety incidents, accidents, and near misses. Prepare accurate and detailed reports, including the nature of the incident, individuals involved, and corrective measures taken.
  • Customer Engagement: Deliver exceptional service to range participants, addressing their questions, concerns, and feedback. Create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for individuals of all skill levels.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Stay informed about federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning firearms and shooting ranges. Ensure the range operates in full compliance with these regulations.
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the shooting range area. Properly dispose of spent casings, empty magazines, and other waste materials.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with range management, instructors, and other staff members to ensure smooth operations and consistent communication regarding safety updates and improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Range Safety Officer (RSO) from a recognized firearms training organization is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of firearms safety principles, shooting techniques, and range operations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey safety instructions clearly and effectively.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and perform duties for extended periods.
  • Experience in emergency response and conflict resolution is advantageous.
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing shooting ranges and firearms usage.
