Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Permit Service Supervisor to join our team at the City of Miami Beach. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for supervising permitting activities and Permit Clerks, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of services to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Permit Clerks, managing and overseeing the construction application approval process, issuance of permits, plan submittals, and plan processing.
  • Coordinate the provision of efficient and effective service delivery to customers, handling difficult and complex customer service situations, and identifying opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Participate in the selection of assigned staff, provide or coordinate training, direct, coordinate, and review the work of assigned staff, monitor workflow, and meet with staff to identify and resolve problems and correct deficiencies.
  • Perform related work as required.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Code Compliance, Planning, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of knowledge and experience as a Permit Clerk in public government, or five years of increasingly responsible experience in supervising in a customer service community and development permitting.
  • ICC Permit Technician Certification is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment.
  • No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, and kneeling.
  • Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press, the general public, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
