About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Explorer in Patient Care to join our team at UC Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Basic Direct Patient Care: As delegated by clinical professional personnel, you will provide basic direct patient care in accordance with delegation law and rules and current education.
  • Maintain a Safe Environment: You will maintain an orderly, clean, and safe environment for patients and visitors.
  • Communicate Effectively: Engage in population-appropriate communication, provide clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involve family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Recognize and Respond to Patient Needs: Identify any physical limitations of the patient and deploy intervention when necessary, recognize and respond appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems, and interpret population-related data and plan care appropriately.
  • Perform Treatments and Administer Medication: Perform treatments, administer medication, or operate equipment safely.
  • Monitor Patient Care: Measure vital signs, record observations of skin integrity, intake & output, height & weight, and report all changes including mental status.
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living: Assist with activities of daily living (ADL's), skin care, tube and catheter care, turning, positioning, transfer, and ambulating, range of motion (ROM), hot and cold compresses.
  • Provide Hygiene and Comfort Measures: Provide hygiene and comfort measures, including bathing/showering, pericare, and changing linens as needed.
  • Utilize Patient Care Equipment: Utilize patient care equipment, such as manual/hydraulic/electronic lift/hoyer lift/bed scale.
  • Remove and Reapply Splints and Braces: Remove and reapply splints, braces, cervical collars, skin and skeletal traction, anti-embolic stockings.
  • Perform Post-Mortem Care: Perform post-mortem care.
  • Assist with Meal Preparation and Distribution: Distribute and remove food trays, set up meal trays, position and prepare patient for meals, assist and/or feed patient, assist with menu selection, record calorie counts, provide snacks and fluids, and monitor head of bed (HOB) with patients receiving tube feedings.
  • Monitor Patients at Risk: Monitor patients who are a risk to themselves or others.
  • Assist with Turning, Coughing, and Deep Breathing: Assist with turning, coughing, and deep breathing, provide follow-up to incentive spirometry, reapply O2 cannula/mask, and provide portable oxygen tank for transport.
  • Perform EKG's, Mobile Care Phlebotomy, and Blood Glucose: May perform EKG's, mobile care phlebotomy (MCP), and blood glucose.
  • Communicate Patient Observations: Communicate patient observations to RN timely and appropriately.
  • Orient Patients and Visitors: Orient patients and visitors to room and unit and update the white boards appropriately.
  • Document Treatments and Procedures: Document treatments and procedures performed.
  • Respond to Nurse Call System: Respond to and utilize nurse call system.
  • Reception and Phone Duties: Reception and phone duties, as directed.
  • Retrieve Information from Computer: Retrieve information from the computer.
  • Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment: Facilitate the maintenance of a clean, safe, and organized environment for patients and coworkers.
  • Report Maintenance Issues: Report maintenance issues.
  • Participate in Patient Admission, Transfer, and Discharge: Participate in patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Demonstrate Helpfulness and Cooperation: Demonstrate helpfulness, cooperation, and respect for team members in pursuit of unprecedented patient care.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED: Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 Year of College Completed: Minimum Required: Minimum Required: 1 year of college completed, with GPA of 2.5 or higher, prefer a clinic field of study.
  • AHA CPR and Patient Care Skills: Trained and maintains proficiency in AHA CPR and patient care skills.
  • Unit-Specific Hospital Safety Education: Completes unit-specific hospital safety education.
