About the Role

The Harm Reduction Recovery Coach is a vital member of our team at Health Equity Alliance, working to promote health equity, inclusivity, and accessibility to necessary, quality healthcare services. This role requires a proficient and experienced professional with a strong understanding of harm reduction approaches and a commitment to fostering self-directed healthy outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet people where they are to earn trust and foster relationships.
  • Support resource center events, such as picnics, movie, and game events.
  • Engage in operational duties as assigned in the resource center, such as managing donations, organizing mail, managing participant behaviors, etc.
  • Provide peer recovery support for participants in the resource center.
  • Facilitate crisis referrals.
  • Facilitate referrals to treatment and connect participants to community resources.
  • Participate in homeless response system activities, such as Point-in-Time, outreach events, and community clean-ups.
  • Facilitate referrals to STI testing and treatment.
  • Work with outreach specialists in the community providing support for people in active use experiencing houselessness.
  • Assist participants with housing activities.
  • Report incidents of neglect and abuse and assist with the client grievance process.
  • Work with supervisor to assure continuous program quality and compliance with related licensing and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in community and stakeholder advisory board activities to improve service quality.
  • Provide education and training on bloodborne pathogens, Narcan, sharps handling, and harm reduction strategies.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with community partner agencies and organizations.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to and appreciation for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA).
  • 2+ years' experience as a recovery coach working with people in active use and homelessness preferred.
  • Familiarity with community resources.
  • Knowledge of the service and care needs of people in active use experiencing houselessness.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, proficiency with Word, Outlook; basic Excel skills.
  • Lived experience is valued and populations that have faced historic barriers to employment are encouraged to apply.
Work Environment and Other Requirements
  • Occasional prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of walking
  • Prolonged periods of driving
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • Valid state of Maine driver license.
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel between Bangor, other offices, and partner and training locations.
