Job Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is in search of a visionary Chief of Information Security Operations. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Chief will strategize, direct, and execute integrated information technologies and systems across the District. Utilizing a collaborative approach, the Chief will lead the Information Security's Center of Excellence (COE) program. By leveraging both internal and external resources, the Chief will offer information security expertise and bridge gaps between application knowledge and security protocols throughout MCCCD. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in all endeavors.

Essential Functions

35% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates staff performance; approves staff selection, directs training, and manages the disciplinary process; identifies training needs and presents professional growth opportunities; oversees and participates in staff training and mentoring.

25% - Allocates Information Security and college resources urgently or for planned projects; develops and implements performance metrics and customer satisfaction measures, including service level agreements; collaborates with District and college personnel to enhance the overall information security program and foster relationships with college IT professionals.

10% - Oversees threat assessment activities and the vulnerability management program; continuously researches, recommends, and implements operational best practices and IT directives to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

10% - Collaborates with internal and external auditors to address audit results, review, respond, and remediate any security control or compliance issues, aligning with best practices.

10% - Directs operational activities in the event of an incident or security breach; develops, maintains, and updates incident response plans; ensures timely resolution while minimizing damage and providing updates as necessary.

5% - Acts on behalf of the CISO as required; attends and participates in local and system-wide meetings, project teams, and task forces.

5% - Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or a closely related field and six (6) years of professional experience in information security, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or a closely related field and eight (8) years of professional experience in information security, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and ten (10) years of professional experience in information security, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Desired Qualifications

A. Experience managing an information security operations program and team, preferably in higher education.
B. Possession of current, relevant information security certifications such as CISSP, CISM/A, Certified Ethical Hacker, GIAC/SANS, etc.
C. Experience leading a security operations center or serving as a security operations leader.
D. Experience building relationships in a decentralized, geographically dispersed environment.
E. Working knowledge of governance and compliance frameworks such as FERPA, HIPAA, NIST, PCI-DSS.

This position can be performed remotely within the U.S.
