About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to join LA28 as Labor and Employment Counsel, where you will be an integral part of our legal team. You will work closely with the broader legal department to advise on labor and employment legal matters, leveraging your negotiation, relationship-building, critical-thinking, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will support LA28 on identified labor and employment legal matters.
  • You will engage in steady streams of self-directed analytical work, including preparing, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents and strategic projects.
  • You will collaborate with other legal personnel and business departments to anticipate, identify, and manage legal exposure and risk management.
  • You will provide ongoing summary and guidance regarding new laws or regulations in applicable jurisdictions.
  • You will partner with the People Management team on topics such as wage and hour law, workplace compliance programming, independent contracting, onboarding/offboarding, employee policies, performance management, training, and employee leave.
  • You will offer legal guidance on issues related to workplace diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, such as preventing discrimination, harassment, and promoting fair hiring practices.
  • You will ensure compliance with laws and regulations related to equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and anti-discrimination policies across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • You will support investigations, dispute resolution, and litigation.
Requirements
  • An undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school are required.
  • A license to practice law in California, being in good standing with the California State Bar, and having the ability to practice law in California are necessary.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in labor and employment legal matters, including federal and California law, is required.
  • A deep understanding of employment law and labor legal concerns, including applying California law, regulations, and policy, is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various contacts, such as outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates, are necessary.
