Position Overview:

Collins Aerospace, a division of Raytheon Technologies, is at the forefront of innovative solutions in the aerospace and defense sector. We are expanding our Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team, located in Cedar Rapids, IA, to meet the growing demand for advanced simulation training software. This software is developed from real-time aircraft operational flight programs and adheres to ARINC-610 simulation standards.

Role Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will play a crucial role in the development and integration of training devices, software, and systems that utilize cutting-edge PC computing, gaming, and display technologies. The primary focus will be on training both Flight and Ground Crews in the effective use of Collins aircraft avionics systems across various domains.
  • Engage with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to establish and implement product line strategies that align with customer and business needs.
  • Act as the main technical liaison for customers and regulatory bodies.
  • Facilitate the release of essential project documentation and update stakeholders on program progress.
  • Coordinate with support teams to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Plan program scope, timelines, and budgets in line with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Drive technical program execution and product integration to meet design and cost objectives.
  • Accurately decompose program requirements and oversee design, development, verification, and validation processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to IPTs to implement product line strategies.
  • Manage project scope, change control, risk, and Change Control Board (CCB) processes.
  • Oversee product verification, certification, budget, and schedule compliance.
  • Request necessary resources and ensure appropriate technical staffing.
  • Assist in market analysis documentation while ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with customers to integrate and support software within their training systems.
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 25% travel, both domestic and international, may be necessary for customer engagements and industry demonstrations.
Essential Qualifications:
  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) is typically required, along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with at least 5 years of experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to access restrictions to sensitive information.
  • Experience in systems or software engineering, and/or project execution roles.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to make decisions impacting cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Experience interfacing with both internal and external customers, including presentations and issue resolution.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in program/project/product leadership with a focus on schedule, budget, and technical guidance.
  • Ability to drive accountability and performance in a cross-functional team setting.
  • Familiarity with products developed in Microsoft Windows Visual Studio & Eclipse using Ada, C/C++/C#, Python, or Matlab Simulink.
  • Experience in life-cycle product support for software or simulation-related products.
  • Understanding of systems environments and leading programs through all phases.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is between 96,000 USD and 200,000 USD, depending on experience and qualifications.
