About the Role

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) is seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Coordinator I to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our team, you will act as a professional liaison for patients and families, care providers, and other Fred Hutch departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Schedule all patient appointments related to treatment within Fred Hutch, as well as outside consults and referrals, and communicate schedules directly to patients.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving: Work closely with patients, families, visitors, providers, and staff to identify needs, answer questions, resolve problems, provide information, and follow up.
  • Administrative Tasks: Update patient and caregiver contact information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) when needed, communicate with providers regarding scheduling needs, treatment schedules, and additional requests, and notify appropriate parties as needed.
  • Emergency Situations: Recognize emergency situations and initiate correct code procedures.
  • Department Support: Support the overall function of the department, and may be required to take on additional duties such as cross-coverage, special projects, etc.
  • Training and Development: Assist with the training of new staff and update/block provider templates for just-in-time needs.
  • Triage and Registration: Triage calls from referring physicians, patients, family members, and others wishing to access care at Fred Hutch, collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information, and enter into registration databases.
  • Financial Clearance: Assist with the financial clearance process as necessary.
  • Commercial Cell Therapy Portal Access: Coordinate Commercial Cell Therapy Portal Access (IMTX).
  • Work Distribution: Distribute work to the Program Assistant and/or Patient Care Coordinator Assistant as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of word processing (MS Word), email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment.
  • Customer Service Skills: Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to solve complex problems and meet patient needs.
  • High-Pressure Environment: Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented, and complex healthcare environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to review work to identify and eliminate errors and omissions.
  • Active Listening: Active listening skills.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Coping Skills: Coping skills.
  • Issue Identification: Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately.
  • Scheduling Accuracy: Attention to detail to ensure scheduling accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (BA or BS).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a patient care setting preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Epic or other scheduling and registration software.
