Mechanical Engineer Satellite Mechanisms Specialist

At SpaceX, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Mechanical Engineer for Satellite Mechanisms, you'll play a critical role in designing and developing the mechanical systems that will enable our spacecraft to reach new heights.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop satellite mechanism systems, including trade studies to identify optimal configurations.
  • Build CAD designs from concept to detail, and conduct simulation analyses to ensure the mechanical systems meet our high standards.
  • Create part manufacturing requirement documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure seamless production.
  • Participate in test procedures and verification plans to ensure the mechanical systems meet our quality standards.
  • Prepare detailed content for technical design reviews and maintain documentation of bill of materials, mass property models, and material lists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in design, analysis, and spaceflight qualification of mechanisms and electro-mechanical systems.
  • 2+ years of experience working with electro-mechanical systems, including motor drive electronics.
  • Previous work experience in specifying and qualifying materials and components for space flight.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of rigid and flexible body dynamics and vibrations.
  • Experience with having designs tested in support of flight qualification.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD Design, stress analysis, and Mathcad simulation tools.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
