We are currently seeking a Cost Estimator to become a part of our Southern Region Team. This role is crucial for generating precise and timely cost estimates for both private and public sector projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze proposal specifications, drawings, soil reports, and existing site conditions to define the scope of work.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings.
  • Supervise the good faith effort process and communicate the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements to the estimating team.
  • Coordinate bid preparation needs with the Contract Administrator.
  • Execute risk and contract management duties as necessary, reporting findings to the Chief Estimator and Division Manager.
  • Maintain a record of work history.
  • Manage pre-bid Requests for Information (RFIs) prior to the specification cutoff date.
  • Generate estimates by calculating a comprehensive takeoff of the scope of work.
  • Oversee the total estimating effort relevant to specific bids/projects as assigned.
  • Keep organized files of working documents as backup for estimating figures.
  • Monitor post-bid submission timelines towards contract procurement.
  • Ensure proper project transition if the project is reassigned to another Project Manager/Team.
  • Align the scope of work with other divisions and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with Owners and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Draft subcontract agreements and manage subcontract and purchase order administration.
  • Develop budgets, subcontracts, purchase orders, and assist in initial project scheduling.
  • Follow through on awarded contracts as assigned, which may include estimating additional work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, and monitoring progress, costs/budgets, and revenue.
  • Mentor and supervise Junior Estimators and Interns as assigned.
  • Engage actively in managing Owner relations and business development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and relevant experience.

Experience Requirements

At least 3 years of experience in Structures or Earthwork estimating for heavy civil projects, including Highway, Rail, Underground, Paving, Materials Manufacturing, Bridge, and Airport infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in understanding project staging/phasing and scope.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Exceptional writing, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, cost control systems, and required accounts.
  • Proficient in Bid2Win Estimating software.
  • Skilled in Blue Beam, Agtek, and SketchUp.
  • Capable of reading plans and specifications accurately.
  • Experienced in performing takeoffs.
  • Understanding of time impact analysis and time-related overhead.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6, SureTrak, and MS Project.
  • Familiar with Contract Accounting.
  • Knowledgeable about critical path analysis and tracking delays.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Annual Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000.
