Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Examiner Senior to join our team at the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. As a Tax Examiner Senior, you will be responsible for verifying the accuracy and timeliness of tax dollars received, ensuring entries made to the automated system are accurate and timely. You will also be responsible for ensuring electronic filers are in compliance, and directing the resolution of all critical error transmissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify the accuracy and timeliness of tax dollars received
  • Ensure entries made to the automated system are accurate and timely
  • Ensure electronic filers are in compliance
  • Direct the resolution of all critical error transmissions

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of common office operational practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of mathematics and business English
  • Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical concepts to calculate and verify tax computations
  • Experience conducting research and forming justifiable conclusions
  • Experience composing business correspondence to external clients and vendors
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile daily accounts accurately
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards and procedures of Virginia regulations
  • Experience using a computer for word processing and data entry
  • Experience establishing effective working relationships with colleagues and the public as well as working independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience processing check/credit card transactions, payment collections, and/or bank deposits
  • Experience with tax return processing, error resolution, or auditing
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards and procedures of the Virginia Fuels Tax Act
