Job Summary:

The Senior Vet Tech will provide high-quality veterinary services to the research program at Temple University's Central Animal Facilities. This role will work independently and in teams to support the ULAR mission, providing preventive health, anesthesia monitoring, and perioperative care to research animals. The successful candidate will also be responsible for instructing research technicians and students, planning, executing, and analyzing data from ULAR-generated research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide pre-, peri-, and post-operative animal care with associated husbandry
• Conduct drug, supply, and equipment purchases
• Maintain equipment and surgery setup, including disinfection and autoclaving of supplies, equipment, and rooms
• Keep proper records, including SOPs, drug usage, and medical records
• Maintain surgery O.R.s, procedure rooms, and prep areas
• Dispose of medical waste and finalize animal disposition
• Assign fees and charge backs for Veterinary Service Requests

Additional Responsibilities:

• Conduct rodent animal health surveillance and record keeping
• Perform non-rodent physical examinations and record keeping
• Provide special treatments and post-operative care
• Monitor environmental and equipment conditions, such as anesthesia machines

Requirements:

• At least 3 years' experience as a veterinary technician
• Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, etc.) is highly desired
• Experience in anesthesiology and surgical support is highly desired
• AALAS certification is preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biological science or veterinary technology
• Experience with large animal anesthesia and surgical support
