Job Overview

A pivotal leadership role within the organization, responsible for overseeing a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance System. This position involves implementing and assessing the efficiency of manufacturing machinery and maintenance protocols to guarantee optimal equipment availability while minimizing upkeep expenses. The role requires proactive management of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) across multiple facilities, effectively guiding the Maintenance team through training and skill enhancement, while mentoring Technicians who support production operations.

Key Responsibilities:

To excel in this role, the individual must successfully execute the following core responsibilities:

  • Establish systems to monitor the performance of all facility equipment.
  • Continuously evaluate equipment operations to ensure:
    • Minimal unexpected downtime.
    • Timely identification and resolution of root causes of issues.
    • Opportunities for operational enhancements.
    • Development and ongoing refinement of a computerized Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) system.
  • Initiate, implement, and manage the facility maintenance strategy based on industry best practices, focusing on planning, scheduling, and preventative/predictive maintenance.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on all facility equipment as necessary.
  • Consult with external industry specialists as required.
  • Develop and maintain a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history. Review weekly reports to ensure timely completion of critical work orders that support equipment availability.
  • Prepare analytical reports, assess data, and provide recommendations for enhancing facility operations and addressing maintenance-related challenges.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel through shift leaders.
  • Ensure maintenance technicians receive adequate training, resources, and motivation to execute the maintenance program safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
  • Facilitate regular communication with all maintenance staff, both individually and in group settings, to promote effective dialogue regarding maintenance concerns and improvements.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance efficiency and/or reduce operational costs.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve key maintenance metrics such as equipment uptime, maintenance expenditures, preventative maintenance compliance, and work order effectiveness.
  • Engage in departmental goal setting, planning, and performance evaluation of all facility equipment.
  • Oversee the usage and inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies, establishing a system for timely reordering.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of facility enhancements and expansions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for maintenance supervisors and technicians based on established job descriptions to assess competencies, knowledge, and contributions.
  • Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) management to uphold safety, health, and environmental standards. Ensure compliance of facility equipment with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to 5S standards within the department and all project sites where maintenance technicians operate.
  • Direct and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department; personally review job site safety to maintain high safety standards for all maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable city, county, state, and federal regulations related to the maintenance department.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employees may encounter certain conditions such as:

  • Manufacturing environment (high noise levels, equipment traffic, etc.).
  • Work at heights or in precarious positions.

Noise Level:

The noise level in the working environment will be elevated due to equipment operations. Hearing protection will be mandatory on the production floor.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Constantly standing and walking throughout the day.
  • Occasionally crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting, and pushing/pulling.
  • Regularly sitting throughout the day.

Education/Experience/Certifications:

To effectively fulfill the duties and responsibilities of this position, the following education, experience, or certifications are preferred:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Maintenance, or a related field is strongly preferred; an Associate's degree in a related field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in metal stamping and/or assembly within the automotive manufacturing sector; at least five years managing a Maintenance department in an automotive manufacturing setting; and a minimum of eight years working in the Maintenance department in an automotive manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills Required:

To effectively execute the responsibilities of this position, the following skills are essential:

  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with basic computer systems (MS Office).
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues; read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; and understand a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in basic mathematical skills and the ability to measure key performance indicators (KPIs) to develop strategies for addressing gaps and failures.
  • Other Skills: Detail-oriented, organized, capable of meeting deadlines while managing multiple tasks, and adept at solving practical problems in varied situations. Comprehensive knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, electronics (PLC), HVAC, welding, machining, and fabrication is essential, with stamping equipment maintenance experience strongly preferred.
