Job Overview

The Maintenance Manager serves as a key executive within E&E Mfg of Tennessee, overseeing the Total Preventative Maintenance System. This role is crucial in implementing and evaluating the efficiency of manufacturing machinery and maintenance protocols to guarantee optimal equipment functionality while minimizing upkeep expenses. The Maintenance Manager proactively manages the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) for multiple facilities and leads the Maintenance team by providing training and development opportunities for Technicians supporting Press and Assembly operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish systems to monitor the performance of all manufacturing equipment.
  • Continuously assess equipment operations to ensure minimal unplanned downtime, including:
    • Identifying and addressing root causes of issues promptly.
    • Spotting areas for enhancement.
    • Developing and refining a computerized Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) system.
  • Initiate and manage a comprehensive maintenance program based on industry best practices, focusing on planning, scheduling, and preventative/predictive maintenance.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all manufacturing equipment as required.
  • Engage with external industry specialists as necessary.
  • Implement and maintain a computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history. Review weekly reports to ensure timely completion of critical work orders that support equipment uptime.
  • Prepare analytical reports, evaluate data, and provide recommendations for enhancing plant operations and resolving maintenance-related issues.
  • Ensure proper supervision of maintenance staff through shift leaders.
  • Guarantee that maintenance technicians receive adequate training, resources, and motivation to execute the maintenance program safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
  • Maintain open communication with all maintenance personnel through individual and group meetings to foster effective dialogue regarding maintenance challenges and improvements.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance efficiency and/or reduce operational costs.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve key maintenance metrics such as equipment uptime, maintenance expenses, PM compliance, and work order effectiveness.
  • Participate in setting departmental objectives, developing plans, and reviewing performance for all manufacturing equipment.
  • Oversee the inventory and usage of spare parts and maintenance supplies, establishing a system for timely reordering.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of plant enhancements and expansions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for maintenance supervisors and technicians based on job responsibilities to assess competency, knowledge, and contributions.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) manager and plant manager to uphold safety, health, and environmental standards. Ensure compliance of plant equipment with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all 5S standards are met in the maintenance department and all project sites where maintenance technicians operate.
  • Direct and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department, personally reviewing job site safety to maintain maximum safety standards for all maintenance staff.
  • Ensure compliance with city, county, state, and federal regulations related to the maintenance department.
  • Coordinate activities with the plant operations department.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Employees may encounter environments such as:

  • Manufacturing settings (high noise levels, traffic from forklifts, etc.).
  • Work at heights or in precarious positions.

Noise Level:

The noise level in the work environment will be elevated due to machinery and equipment operation. Hearing protection will be mandatory on the production floor.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands outlined below are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Constantly standing and walking throughout the day.
  • Occasionally crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting, and pushing/pulling.
  • Constantly sitting during specific tasks.

Education/Experience/Certifications:

To effectively fulfill the duties and responsibilities of this position, the following education, experience, or certifications are preferred:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Maintenance, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • An Associate's degree in a related field is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in metal stamping and/or assembly within the automotive manufacturing sector is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a Maintenance department in an automotive manufacturing environment is required.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience working in the Maintenance department in an automotive manufacturing setting is required.

Additional Skills Required:

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with basic computer systems (MS Office).

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.

Analytical Skills:

  • Utilize mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as basic algebra.
  • Measure key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyze departmental data to identify strategies for addressing gaps and failures.

Other Skills:

  • Detail-oriented and organized, capable of meeting deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, electronics (PLC), heating and ventilation, air conditioning, welding, machining, and fabrication. Experience in stamping equipment maintenance is strongly preferred.
