The Department of Radiation Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is inviting applications for a faculty position in medical physics. The rank of the appointment will be determined based on the candidate's experience and academic achievements.
Department Focus:
This department is dedicated to advancing research and treatment methodologies for pediatric patients, particularly in the areas of brain, musculoskeletal, and solid tumors.
Candidate Preferences:
We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to proton therapy and are eager to innovate in areas such as treatment planning, delivery techniques, and toxicity modeling.
Collaborative Opportunities:
Successful candidates will have the chance to collaborate with a variety of researchers across multiple cancer center programs. The position offers substantial resources, including dedicated research time and support.
Departmental Structure:
The department is comprised of four full-time medical physics faculty members, six clinical physicists, four dosimetrists, and two medical physics assistants, along with a dedicated linear accelerator engineer and a team of information systems and research personnel, including research scientists and clinical research associates.
Clinical Environment:
Our facility is one of the largest pediatric radiation oncology centers globally, treating approximately 300 children, adolescents, and young adults annually. The department boasts 45,000 square feet of clinical space, which includes a specialized clinic, treatment planning areas, and comprehensive support for therapy and anesthesia.
Advanced Technology:
We are equipped with a linear accelerator featuring image guidance and various imaging platforms (spectral CT, PET/CT, 1.5T MR, and 3.0T MR) to enhance treatment planning and assessment. The Proton Therapy Center includes state-of-the-art facilities designed specifically for pediatric cancer treatment.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in medical physics, engineering, or a related physical science. Certification in radiation oncology physics by ABR/ABMP/CCPM or eligibility for certification is highly preferred. Foreign equivalencies for these qualifications may also be considered.
