Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Shelter Attendant to join our team at Craven County Government. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and attention to the animals in our shelter, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily care and maintenance of animal housing areas, including cleaning, disinfecting, and providing food and water.
  • Assist with animal intake, adoption, and reclaim processes, including updating records and providing information to the public.
  • Participate in animal behavior evaluations, provide enrichment activities, and assist with training programs.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and other shelter staff to provide medical care and attention to animals.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including animal behavior, medical treatment, and adoption statistics.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as answering phones, responding to emails, and completing paperwork.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; animal handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift, bend, and stand for long periods; must be able to handle and control animals safely.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. The shelter is open 7 days a week, and employees may be required to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
