About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Kennel Technician I at York County's Animal Shelter. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of kennels, including cats, dogs, and occasional livestock or wildlife.
  • Clean other areas of the Animal Shelter, including emptying trash cans, washing dishes, and cleaning laundry.
  • Feed and provide water to shelter animals.
  • Provide animal enrichment, including walking dogs and socializing cats.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of cleaning supplies and shelter materials.
  • Report signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to shelter staff.
  • Attend training, as required, to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Requirements
  • Some high school education.
  • Some experience working with animals is preferred.
  • Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Work Environment

This position performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects. It also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

The work environment involves routine and frequent exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, radiation, disease/pathogens, and exposure to fractious and rabies-infected animals.
