Position Summary:
The GIS Administrator will lead the development and implementation of data visualization projects that emphasize health equity. Responsibilities include creating interactive dashboards, web-based visualizations, and mapping initiatives. The role also involves developing educational materials and tools to facilitate data modernization practices among staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various teams to design and maintain data management software tools and documentation, enhancing data analysis processes.
- Utilize mapping and statistical software (e.g., GIS, Python, SQL Server, R) for data cleaning, management, and analysis.
- Work with other divisions to perform both basic and advanced data and mapping analyses.
- Manage large, complex datasets, ensuring data integrity and comparability.
- Conduct routine maintenance on established data sources.
- Create static and interactive maps and dashboards for diverse audiences.
- Develop charts, maps, and tables for various platforms, adhering to visualization guidelines.
- Facilitate training sessions on GIS and related software to enhance workforce capabilities.
- Document all work processes and outputs.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- A master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Proficiency in creating spatial datasets and executing geographic data processes.
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating spatial data.
- Expertise in programming languages such as R and Python for data analysis.
- Experience with software development in a Linux environment.
- Familiarity with version control systems like git and Github.
- Knowledge of geocoding and working with NYC spatial data.
- Ability to produce high-quality maps and visualizations under pressure.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
Preferred Attributes:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with QGIS or ArcGIS.
- Background in managing research projects.
- Ability to interpret and analyze public health data.
- Desire for professional growth and skill development.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
