## Position Overview

The Waste Collection Operator is tasked with the secure and effective management of various types of waste collection vehicles, including rear load, front load, side load, and roll-off trucks. This role is essential in delivering prompt, courteous, and comprehensive waste management services to clients along designated routes. The Operator skillfully navigates assigned vehicles through residential and commercial settings, maneuvering through busy streets, narrow driveways, and congested areas while ensuring exceptional customer service. ## Core Responsibilities

Conducts thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle in line with Casella's safety protocols and relevant regulations; ensures the truck's appearance meets company standards. Demonstrates a commitment to the safe operation of various waste collection vehicles on public roads, customer locations, and construction sites.

Delivers a distinctly superior level of service through polite interactions with all clients and ensures timely service delivery. Maintains a positive attitude towards company objectives, customer satisfaction, and municipal goals. Accurately completes all required company and federally mandated documentation. Responsible for emptying waste receptacles and cleaning up any accidental spills.

Participates in all scheduled training sessions and meetings as mandated by Casella or management. Reports any service disruptions, incidents, accidents, property damage, or unsafe conditions to Dispatch; maintains a high level of situational awareness at all times. Engages in training and other educational opportunities to enhance knowledge of the company, its products, sales, and services, and performs additional duties as necessary to support the company's vision and core values.

## Career Path Levels

**Apprentice:** Completes training for Helper safety (Rear Load Residential), customer service training, and acquires the necessary skills to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely while serving customers.

**Class I Operator:** Demonstrates the ability to complete assigned route sheets for one line of business and perform tasks related to one of the following: rear load, front load, side load, or roll-off trucks.

**Class II Operator:** Shows proficiency in completing assigned route sheets for two lines of business and tasks related to two of the following: rear load, front load, side load, or roll-off trucks. Displays improved communication skills with customers and colleagues and demonstrates increased knowledge of the company and industry.

**Class III Operator:** Successfully completes assigned route sheets for three lines of business and tasks related to three of the following: rear load, front load, side load, or roll-off trucks. Exhibits a strong commitment to community contributions on behalf of the company and assists in training new employees.

**Lead Operator:** Develops training plans for new drivers and coaches team members to achieve successful outcomes. Completes assigned route sheets for all lines of business and provides courteous customer service while communicating professionally with clients and coworkers. Actively engages in the company's career pathways program, assisting drivers in advancing their careers.

## Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A or B CDL License, and be legally authorized to work in the United States. The role requires the physical capability to handle objects exceeding 50 lbs frequently throughout the day and to work in various weather conditions.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, effective listening and problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

**Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a drug screening, is required.**
