Organization Overview

Reach for Resources is a dedicated nonprofit organization located in Minnetonka, Minnesota. We specialize in providing a variety of services including recreation, education, advocacy, counseling, and health programs tailored for individuals with disabilities in the Minneapolis western metro area. Our recreation division collaborates with local county and city park and recreation departments to deliver adaptive recreation, inclusion, and training services to enhance community engagement.

Role Summary

The Ice Skating Inclusion Specialist will participate in designated ice skating lessons across various locations, assisting children with intellectual disabilities or behavioral challenges in developing their ice skating skills. This role is pivotal in helping individuals access community programs and achieve their fullest potential for successful inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with city parks and recreation personnel by serving as an assistant coach, program leader, or instructor.
  • Engage with other participants in the program while providing focused support to the child receiving 1:1 assistance.
  • Offer additional support for children with disabilities, sharing effective teaching strategies with coaching staff, and maintaining communication with parents and peers to ensure comprehensive involvement.
  • Complete necessary inclusion documentation.

  • Proficient in maneuvering on ice skates (equipment can be provided).

  • Valid driver's license in good standing and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Availability during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Understanding of community inclusion principles.
  • Experience in group leadership.
  • Minimum of 1 year working with individuals with disabilities.
