Essential Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled Weighing Specialist to join our team at Zia Park Casino Hotel Racetrack. As a Weighing Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of scales used in our racing operations.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Weighing jockeys out and in, and ensuring that riders carry the correct assigned weight
  • Recording all over weights and reporting all infractions to the Stewards
  • Ensuring all over weights are announced publicly and posted
  • Verifying that scales have been certified to be accurate by a reputable company or governmental agency prior to the start of the race meet
  • Checking scales for accuracy every race day
  • Maintaining accurate scale sheets for each race
  • Assisting the Room custodian as necessary

To be successful in this position, you will require:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Read, write legibly, understand and speak English
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Must be licensed with New Mexico Racing Commission
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will not have supervisory responsibilities.

Language Skills

You will be required to:

  • Read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Read and communicate verbally in English
  • Written communication skills in English may also be required
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish is an asset
Reasoning Ability

You will be required to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

You must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Able to perform duties in all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Employee could be exposed to an environment containing unrestricted second hand tobacco smoke.
