Respiratory Therapist Position Overview

Position: Respiratory Therapist
Location: Odessa, TX
Contract Type: 4-week assignment
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate up to $50

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care for adult and elderly patients (ages 18 and above)
  • Uphold patient rights, dignity, and individuality
  • Communicate treatment plans, tests, and equipment usage to patients while documenting educational interactions
  • Administer physician-ordered therapies, including nebulizer treatments and nasal oxygen applications
  • Set up, operate, and monitor ventilators; assist in ventilator weaning and maintain ventilation during emergency situations
  • Document treatment procedures and patient responses accurately
  • Perform tracheostomy care and replace tracheostomy tubes as necessary
  • Change tubing and suction devices in accordance with hospital protocols
  • Report patient conditions and treatment progress to oncoming staff and primary care nurses
  • Manage respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring proper cleaning and sterilization
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • Make regular assessments of ventilators and oxygen delivery systems
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations and blood gas analyses
  • Assist in preparing patients for physical therapy and transportation

Qualifications

  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a CRT or RRT
  • High school diploma or equivalent with documented training
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Practitioner in the state of employment
  • BLS certification required upon hire; ACLS certification to be obtained within 90 days
  • Basic proficiency in mathematics and computer usage
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Capable of applying common sense in standardized situations

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • RRT or CRT credentialed in the state of assignment
  • BLS Certification
  • CPR Certification
