Position Overview:

The role involves delivering specialized care to adult and geriatric patients, specifically those aged 18 and older. It is essential to uphold the rights, dignity, and individuality of each patient during all interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide expert consultation to fellow Respiratory Therapists and assist in addressing performance-related issues.
  2. Support the Manager in fulfilling unit-specific requirements, including mentoring and training new staff members.
  3. Oversee daily responsibilities of other therapists and ensure all lead therapist duties are executed as directed by the Manager.
  4. Communicate the purpose and procedures of treatments and equipment to patients, ensuring thorough documentation of education provided.
  5. Administer physician-prescribed treatments, including Hand Held Nebulizer Therapy and various oxygen delivery systems.
  6. Set up, operate, and monitor ventilators for patients requiring assistance with spontaneous ventilation, participating in the weaning process as necessary.
  7. Ensure proper ventilation maintenance during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and perform intubation when required.
  8. Attend departmental meetings and in-service training sessions regularly.
  9. Document all relevant treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts.
  10. Conduct tracheostomy care in accordance with hospital policies, including timely maintenance of sterile water.
  11. Change tracheostomy tubes and document all changes accurately.
  12. Maintain respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring compliance with cleaning and sterilization protocols.
  13. Perform routine checks on ventilators and other respiratory equipment, ensuring functionality and safety.
  14. Assist in preparing patients for physical therapy and other transport needs, adhering to safety guidelines for oxygen tank storage.
  15. Participate in the Hazardous Material Program, understanding the risks associated with exposure to various materials.
  16. Comply with established safety protocols and patient safety practices.
  17. Recognize signs of abuse and follow appropriate referral procedures.
  18. Engage in Performance Improvement activities to enhance service delivery.
  19. Limit access to protected health information (PHI) to only what is necessary for job performance.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Education and Experience:

Current RT license to practice as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the state of employment, accredited by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
