We are in search of a Lead Jewish Educator (LJE) who embodies enthusiasm and a deep passion for Judaism. This individual will champion the importance of pluralism, aspire to cultivate a community that embraces diverse expressions of Jewish life, and possess the ability to connect authentically with students from various Jewish backgrounds. The LJE will be instrumental in building micro-communities and creating innovative opportunities for student engagement. They will work to establish and nurture relationships with our diverse Jewish population on campus. The Lead Jewish Educator will be part of a comprehensive educational and programmatic leadership team, dedicated to advancing Hillel International's educational vision and engagement strategy. They will interact directly with students, guide the student life team, serve as a mentor and resource for students and staff, and enhance opportunities for Jewish education and experiences. The Lead Jewish Educator will report to the Assistant Director for Student Life.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage students in meaningful dialogues and experiences that promote Hillel's vision of Jewish diversity and pluralism.
- Establish relationships with students through impactful conversations and by connecting them to Jewish life opportunities on campus.
- Innovate and explore various engagement strategies aimed at reaching currently uninvolved students.
- Act as the primary educator and administrator for multiple cohort-based Jewish learning initiatives.
- Design and implement creative educational methodologies and innovative curricula tailored to specific micro-communities.
- Collaborate in the development of a diverse array of student programs and initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison with campus partners for interfaith and religious life initiatives.
- Maintain a regular presence at Shabbat and holiday events at Hillel, as well as other Shabbat experiences across campus.
- Participate as a staff member in immersive experiences such as Birthright Israel and alternative breaks.
- Having coffee in a communal space with a student you met during an introductory event.
- Joining a student organization for dinner and leading a discussion that connects Judaism to relevant life topics.
- Facilitating a session as part of an ongoing cohort-based learning program.
- Stopping to engage with multiple students about their interests and the offerings of Jewish life on campus.
- Collaborating with a colleague to integrate Jewish ideas and values into an upcoming program.
- Meeting with leaders from other religious communities on campus to plan a collaborative service project.
- Engaging in a design thinking process with students to reimagine the Shabbat experience.
- Rabbinic ordination or an advanced degree in Jewish studies, Jewish education, or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of relevant professional experience, including community organizing, Hillel, youth movements, camping, or experiential Jewish education.
- Demonstrated success in community building and outreach, with experience in program visioning and implementation, as well as curriculum development and informal educational experiences.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
- A robust knowledge of Jewish content, encompassing traditional texts, contemporary wisdom, culture, and unconventional sources.
- Expertise in facilitating complex discussions about Judaism and Israel in an approachable manner that resonates with students at various stages of their Jewish journeys.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and pluralistic Jewish community.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a genuine passion for Judaism and Israel.
- Ability to engage with individuals from diverse interests and backgrounds.
- Confidence in initiating and leading programs, along with a willingness to ask questions.
