Position Overview

The IT Systems Specialist is an expert in the comprehensive design, analysis, execution, and support of technological systems, software, or other IT solutions. This role serves as the project leader for all designated initiatives.

  • Engage actively in the upkeep, surveillance, reporting, and support of operating systems, applications, and services.
  • Conduct routine problem analysis and design resolutions for systems and applications.
  • Diagnose issues with computer systems, including hardware and software troubleshooting, communication, network, and peripheral equipment; implement repairs and corrections as necessary, adhering to service level agreement (SLA) guidelines.
  • Lead the design, planning, installation, and support of computer systems, network hardware, software applications, and peripherals.
  • Direct the formulation and execution of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance aligns with corporate objectives, industry best practices, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the Business System Architecture (BSA) team to support IT functions in project and program planning.
  • Contribute to IT initiatives through active participation in project planning and organization, both internally and in customer-facing roles.
  • Utilize independent judgment in planning, scheduling, organizing, controlling, and monitoring IT projects.
  • Install patches and upgrades to server hardware, firmware, and software on production platforms.
  • Effectively utilize Help Desk ticketing systems for incident and problem management, customer interactions, and follow-ups.
  • Create and maintain System Configuration documentation following industry best practices to meet customer objectives while ensuring data and infrastructure security and integrity.
  • Maintain reports on system downtime, preventative maintenance plans, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Participate in task and role planning for System Administrator II and I staff.
  • Contribute actively to the Cross-Training initiative for Tier III Platforms.
  • Perform and verify routine system backups and restorations.
  • Assist in managing Active Directory, Group Policies, Users, and Computers.
  • Prioritize, coordinate, and escalate unresolved issues or emergencies to other support tiers/teams in line with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Act as a liaison with end-users, management, and other systems departments.
  • Support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in collaboration with end-users and departmental management.
  • Be available for on-call production system support.
  • Provide continuous monitoring of network and storage performance, delivering Tier 2 & 3 support for a global network infrastructure.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field with 7+ years of experience in network and operating systems, or an Associate's degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in managing and implementing server/client environments with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Platforms and Federation Services (NetIQ, ADFS, Duo, SAML, etc.).
  • Proficient in managing and implementing Windows Server technologies (2008 R2-2016 preferred), Active Directory, DFS, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.
  • Experience with Office 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, InTune, Conditional Access Policies, etc.), Microsoft SQL (2008/2012/2014/2016), Microsoft IIS, and Linux support (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
  • Familiarity with Mail Security Gateways (IronPort, ProofPoint, etc.).
  • Prior experience supporting an Enterprise Backup Solution.
  • Knowledge of endpoint management/reporting using Enterprise Antivirus Management server technologies (TrendMicro, Symantec Enterprise Protection Manager, etc.).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware vCenter/ESXi, VMware Horizon) including VM Deployment, Monitoring, Configuration, Setup, and Expansion.
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) for endpoint management/reporting.
  • Experience supporting Cisco UCS Blade infrastructure.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking and related services (e.g., DNS, SMTP, DHCP, Load-Balancers, etc.).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, capable of identifying root causes and resolving systemic issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while effectively prioritizing critical issues.
  • Proficient in creating, documenting, and adhering to processes and procedures.
  • Eligibility for DoD Personal Security Clearance is required.
  • Possession of one or more certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SAN, NAS, Virtual Storage, and Backup technologies (Nimble, Veeam, vSAN, and/or DataDomain).
  • Administration experience with Microsoft Enterprise CA Cert Requests/Monitoring.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
  • Experience managing Microsoft File Server (DFS-R/DFS-N, ABE) File Share Requests, Recovery, and Permission Management.
  • Familiarity with Information Assurance programs is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerShell Scripting for Server/Platform management.
  • Possession of additional certifications such as VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or CISSP is a plus.

The physical demands of this role require regular sitting, talking, and hearing in person and by telephone, as well as using hands to operate standard office equipment.
