Position Purpose:
Under the general oversight of the principal and grant director, this role is designed to provide personalized and group support for students, coordinate school-level college readiness initiatives (such as advising, campus visits, SAT/ACT preparation, tutoring, career fairs, summer transition programs, FAFSA assistance, and parent engagement events), and lead the financial literacy segment.

Key Responsibilities:

Graduation Coaches will:
* Support counselors and assist students in enrolling in advanced course offerings.
* Aid students and their families in identifying post-secondary educational and career aspirations.

  • Guide students in determining the necessary courses to achieve their goals.
* Provide college-bound students with supportive services during the summer before college (including college orientation, study strategies, and resource guides) and throughout their first year of college via virtual and social media encouragement, resources, and data collection.

  • Organize and Host an Annual Signing Day (Senior Year)
  • Plan and Host Summer Transition Camps
  • Coordinate College Visits
  • Collaborate with counselors and school staff to assist middle school students in creating a CFNC account for access to educational planning, career planning, and college application and funding processes.

  • Work with counselors, CDCs, and school staff to plan and host annual College and Career Fairs.

  • Assist students in completing college or trade school applications and FAFSA online forms.
* Provide opportunities for students to engage in leadership training and college visits.

  • Host parent events to inform families about funding options for college, selecting a college, and preparing for college twice a year.

  • Assist and support with CFNC and AVID as needed.
  • Collaborate with community partners to plan logistics for Gear Up Partnerships.
* Host an annual Reality of Money event.
* Serve on the school-based advisory team.

  • Attend grant meetings as required.

Additional Duties:
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, Grant Director, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with data information systems, data analysis, and the development of action plans.
Proficiency in using computer network systems and software applications as necessary. Ability to develop and implement projects.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding leadership, performance, and professional development.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others encountered in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Work in standard office and school building environments.

Equipment:
Utilize standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephones.

Travel Requirements:
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Qualifications Profile:

Certification/License:
North Carolina Certification as required for position.
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education:
Bachelor's and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Counseling or a related educational discipline.
Experience:
Successful experience as a school counselor at the Middle and/or High School level preferred.
5 years of experience working in secondary schools.
Successful experience working with at-risk students.
Working knowledge of effective strategies for reducing behaviors that jeopardize student graduation.
Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults.
Experience in tracking intervention plans and collaborating with parents.
