Role Overview
Position Purpose

  • Under the guidance of the School Principal, enhance the educational experience of students with unique needs, focusing on academic achievement, social skills, and daily living activities through the implementation of district-approved educational programs; maintaining documentation of teaching methods and student progress; addressing individual student requirements; and fostering a secure and effective learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations, assessments, and diagnostic tests to identify learning challenges and recommend strategies to address these challenges and optimize educational outcomes.
  • Engage in planning meetings and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Support students and educational staff in executing IEPs and behavior management strategies.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, organizations, and authorities as necessary.
  • Work with administrators and fellow educators to assess individual student capabilities and needs, particularly for those with special requirements, while informing stakeholders about available support services.
  • Act as a resource for students and families, providing guidance that promotes personal development, self-awareness, and behavioral management; serve as a communication link between home and school.
  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge and stay updated on educational advancements by attending workshops, seminars, or professional gatherings, and by maintaining connections with higher education institutions and the business sector.
  • Establish and uphold a comprehensive record-keeping system to provide student information to future educational institutions and employers, adhering to district policies and legal requirements.
  • Encourage parental engagement in the educational process and ensure effective communication with students and their families.
  • Assist in the onboarding of new educators and provide in-service training in guidance practices.
  • Select and order necessary educational materials and maintain inventory records.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal and other designated central office administrators.

  • Ability to utilize computer systems and software applications as necessary.
  • Capability to organize and coordinate tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with students and parents.
  • Commitment to self-evaluation for performance and professional development.
  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Physical and Mental Demands

  • Work in standard office and educational environments.

Qualifications

Certification/License:

  • State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an education-related field relevant to the teaching assignment.

Experience:

  • Prior successful experience in special education teaching for the appropriate grade level is preferred.
