Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Worker III to join our facilities and grounds maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment. This includes making building repairs, using hand and power tools, and operating light motorized equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify areas requiring repair and maintenance.
  • Perform building repairs involving plumbing, irrigation systems, painting, carpentry, mechanical, structural, flooring, and/or simple electrical work.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools in the performance of work.
  • Operate light motorized equipment, dig ditches, and lay pipe.
  • Design and install irrigation systems.
  • Maintain and repair impact rotor sprinklers, drip irrigation systems, and control valves.
  • Troubleshoot computerized and electromechanical controller problems.
  • Perform brazing, soldering, and welding.
  • Operate and maintain pumps and pressure tanks.
  • Read and interpret construction and working blueprints and diagrams.
  • Perform painting.
  • Assist with roofing.
  • Paint airport landing strips.
  • Perform cold patches and road repairs.
  • Perform plumbing repairs.
  • Install and repair fencing, gates, and commercial garage doors.
  • Repair appliances, tools, and pieces of equipment.
  • Oversee others in the performance of maintenance work.
  • Perform refuse removal and processing.
  • Install dry wall.
  • Perform back flow testing.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of paid experience in general building maintenance and repair, involving minor carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing work.
  • Completion of two (2) years' experience equivalent to a Maintenance Worker II in the Kern County Classification System.
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Some positions may require possession and maintenance of a Back Flow Tester Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades.
  • Ability to determine the need for repairs, use hand tools, estimate time and materials needed to perform a job, follow oral and written directions, and use good body mechanics and follow basic safety practices.
