Job Title: Youth Worker

BronxWorks is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker to join our team at the Bronxchester Afterschool Program. As a Youth Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for students, promoting positive relationships, effective communication, and personal growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement engaging recreational, educational, and social activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of the youth.
  • Collaborate with the program team to create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters academic and personal growth.
  • Provide classroom management and instruction, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Act as a liaison with parents, maintaining open communication and addressing any concerns or needs.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision meetings to ensure alignment with program goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience working with youth in a recreational, educational, or social environment.
  • Clearance through New York State Central Registry and New York State Office of Children and Family Services required.
  • Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development and whole language philosophy preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
