Heavy Machinery Operator

for our facility.

Heidelberg Materials is looking for a skilled

Heavy Machinery Operator

. This role involves the operation of mining and quarry equipment.


Responsibilities include operating mobile quarry equipment such as front-end loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes to move bulk materials like shot rock, sand, and clay to designated areas.

You will also drive haul trucks to transport materials within the quarry.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment by keeping quarry floors and walls in good condition. Utilize backhoes for scaling walls post-blast and clear snow or debris as necessary. Report any hazardous conditions to your supervisor.

Grade roads using road graders and maintain road conditions throughout the quarry.

Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on mobile equipment, including lubrication, fueling, and cleaning. Complete safety checklists before operating any machinery.

Assist with cleaning or repairing conveyor belts as required.

Participate in the planning and execution of blasting operations in the quarry, including using seismographs to monitor blasts.

Additional duties may include:

determining the type and quantity of explosives needed, drilling holes for charges, and assembling charges.

You may also serve as a Crusher Operator during periods of absence.

The normal work schedule may include five 8-hour days, with potential call-ins, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Adhere to plant and MSHA Safety Policies, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Maintain awareness of environmental standards and take corrective actions for minor issues or report compliance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

What We Are Looking For

High school diploma or GED

One year of experience in heavy equipment operation or related fields; or a combination of education and experience

Computer proficiency

Heavy Operator Certification - required

Valid Driver License - required

NYS Blasting Certification is a plus

Physical Requirements:


Ability to sit, stand, walk, push, pull, twist, climb, balance, bend, kneel, reach, grasp, and perform repetitive motions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Capable of working at heights and in confined spaces, while wearing respiratory and other personal protective equipment.
