Job Summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a highly skilled Senior Scheduling Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare operations team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient access to care and treatment through appointment-based availability of healthcare services at our designated facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and Coordination
    • Schedule patients for complex services, such as surgery and special procedures, on a routine basis, ensuring timely, accurate, and appropriate scheduling.
    • Coordinate with patients, physicians, and facility staff to ensure exams, tests, and procedures are scheduled efficiently and effectively.
  • Patient Communication and Support
    • Communicate with patients to confirm appointments, provide pre-appointment instructions, and arrange for interpreter or mobility assistance as needed.
    • Respond promptly to patient inquiries and resolve any scheduling issues or concerns.
  • Registration and Insurance Verification
    • Verify patient demographic and insurance information, ensuring accurate and compliant registration.
    • Obtain valid and compliant orders and schedules patients based on physician orders and department criteria.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Ensure scheduling goals are met, including abandonment rate, productivity, and activities per hour.
    • Communicate with patients and staff to resolve quality and safety issues, ensuring a seamless patient experience.
  • Team Collaboration and Development
    • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure strong communication and a seamless patient experience.
    • Provide training and guidance to less experienced staff members, promoting a positive and dynamic team environment.
Requirements
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Experience
    • Four years of experience in a medical setting or call center environment, with two years of medical scheduling experience.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and diagnosis/procedural codes.
    • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and provide patient-centered care.
