Key Responsibilities

As the Substation Engineering Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing a collaborative relationship with the Project Manager, where the PM oversees scope, schedule, budget, and client relations, while the Engineering Manager ensures technical project execution.
  • Creating and executing a project plan focused on the technical elements of projects.
  • Delegating project tasks and offering technical support to team members.
  • Assisting in managing the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, which includes proposal creation, work breakdown structure development, progress evaluation, risk management, change management, and schedule oversight.
  • Conducting quality assurance checks and reviews for all project outputs in accordance with HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) standards, processes, and procedures to ensure the delivery of a top-tier product to clients.
  • Working autonomously while potentially mentoring or training Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, leveraging teams across various locations.
  • Participating in project evaluations as necessary.
  • Having prior experience in a consulting firm is advantageous.
  • Collaborating with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and cultivate specific technical expertise, attending training and seminars to deepen understanding of complex concepts related to the discipline.
  • Assisting in the development of technical papers and presentations that highlight HDR's technical strengths at industry conferences or similar events.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
  • A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV, including foundational knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, as well as familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant design and equipment standards.
  • A proven track record of effective collaboration with diverse teams, regional departments, technical managers, and project personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities; capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
