PROGRAM STRUCTURE: Roads to Success Inc. offers a diverse range of youth initiatives, including after-school programs, summer camps, retreats, conferences, and employment opportunities during the summer, impacting thousands of young people across the city annually. Our organization emphasizes the youth development philosophy of the Circle of Courage in all our initiatives, fostering an atmosphere of Belonging, where youth can cultivate their Independence, discover and hone their Mastery skills, and practice Generosity within their communities. Central to our programs are training strategies that empower our young professionals to forge deeply meaningful connections with the youth they mentor, whom we refer to as Our Future Leaders.

PRIMARY ROLE: A Group Leader is responsible for collaborating with participants to nurture a positive community culture and ensure our objectives are recognized within our programs. Group Leaders are expected to build significant relationships and serve as positive role models for our future leaders.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

  • Supervisor: Program Director
  • Max Hours: 25 hours per week
  • Days: 5 days per week, Monday – Friday
  • Compensation: $17 – $18 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participant Oversight:

  • Oversee all scheduled activities and uphold the Zero Impact policy, ensuring supervision of program participants at all times during program operations, including off-site excursions.

Activity Facilitation:

  • Support educators and activity specialists in delivering lessons and activities by actively engaging and encouraging participant involvement.
  • Establish and maintain a supportive and secure environment by ensuring activity spaces are tidy and organized.
  • Design and execute engaging academic enrichment and recreational activities that integrate elements of literacy, STEM, creative arts, youth development, and team building.

Youth Development:

  • Apply principles of positive youth development through effective behavior management and discipline techniques that promote social, emotional, and cognitive growth, while enhancing self-esteem and responsibility among all participants.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants and among peers, serving as a role model.

Professional Growth:

  • Engage in meetings and workshops aimed at enhancing professional skills, as directed by the Program Director or agency, including a minimum of 15 hours of training annually.
  • Collaborate with the program director, staff developers, and educational specialists to refine professional skills.
  • Implement skills and knowledge gained from training to elevate program quality.

Program Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to site-specific guidelines and the program staff manual, which includes staff and program-specific requirements as outlined by relevant regulations, prioritizing the provision of quality services and the safety of all participants.
  • Promptly inform supervisors of any behaviors that compromise the quality of services and the safety of participants and staff, including the proactive reporting of incidents involving physical or emotional harm.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth in educational or recreational settings.
  • Capability to lead and engage in group sports and recreational activities.
  • Effective and respectful communication skills with all community members, including the ability to model and facilitate positive conflict resolution.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor and resource for students, staff, and families while promoting cultural inclusiveness.
  • Availability to work part-time hours on school days and full-time hours during non-school days.
