Position Overview

The Head of Proposal Strategy is responsible for overseeing the conception, development, and execution of all proposals for the Kelley School of Business - Bloomington.

Department-Specific Duties

  • Reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research at KSOB-B and collaborates with KSOB-B leadership and faculty.
  • Formulates and implements research priorities aligned with the school's strengths to secure impactful funding opportunities.
  • Manages proposal development efforts, including the identification of critical external and internal funding opportunities, faculty training through workshops, and coordination of proposal submissions.
  • Establishes and nurtures the technical expertise and relationships necessary for crafting complex proposals and advancing key research initiatives that align with the overall mission of KSOB-B.
  • Engages with funding agencies to gain insights into current and future Requests for Applications suitable for pursuit.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides high-level operational leadership and coordination for assigned staff to define research development strategies, processes, and standards; offers direction on priority research development projects.
  • Establishes both short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, managing project timelines and resource allocation for multi-project initiatives.
  • Oversees the formulation of innovative strategies to pursue external funding across diverse research and scholarly activities.
  • Conducts various personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, and terminations.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership teams and participates in multi-disciplinary, multi-campus advisory groups.
  • Manages high-level assignments and the allocation of technical resources, negotiating and coordinating initiatives involving staff from various departments.
  • Recommends budgetary proposals based on resource requirements and ensures cost efficiency.
  • Researches and collaborates with senior leaders, research compliance, and other stakeholders to recommend development standards, best practices, and related policies.

Combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered. Additional education beyond the minimum requirements may substitute for work experience, and vice versa.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role necessitates effective communication and the ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment. The position involves both sedentary work and periods of mobility within an office environment.
