Position Overview

The Director of Proposal Development is responsible for overseeing the design, formulation, and execution of all proposals for the Kelley School of Business - Bloomington.

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research at KSOB-B and collaborates with KSOB-B leadership and faculty.
  • Formulates and implements research priorities that align with the school's strengths to secure impactful funding opportunities.
  • Manages proposal development activities, including the identification of significant external and internal funding opportunities, training faculty through workshops, and coordinating proposal efforts.
  • Develops and sustains the technical expertise and relationships essential for crafting complex proposals and advancing key research initiatives that align with the mission and vision of KSOB-B.
  • Engages with funding agencies to gain insights into current and upcoming Requests for Applications suitable for pursuit.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides high-level operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff to define research development strategies, processes, and standards; offers guidance on priority research projects and initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational goals, including managing project timelines and resource planning for multi-project research initiatives.
  • Oversees the creation of new strategies to pursue external funding across all research and scholarly domains.
  • Conducts various personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, and terminations.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership teams and multi-disciplinary advisory groups across campuses.
  • Manages high-level assignments and the allocation of technical resources, negotiating and coordinating initiatives involving staff from various departments.
  • Recommends budgetary proposals based on resource requirements and ensures cost-effectiveness.
  • Researches and collaborates with senior leaders, compliance teams, and stakeholders to recommend development standards, best practices, and related policies.
Qualifications

Education and experience combinations may be considered. Additional education may substitute for work experience and vice versa.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in a related field)
Preferred
  • Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 4 years of experience in research administration or a related field
  • 1 year of management experience
Preferred
  • 5 years of experience in grant or proposal development
  • Experience in a large higher education institution or a funding agency

Working Conditions

This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment. The position involves both sedentary work and periods of mobility within an office environment. The individual must be capable of performing essential functions with or without accommodation.

Work Location

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule, combining remote and in-person work, subject to future changes based on university policy and departmental needs.
