Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accounting Policy Manager to join our team at Sotheby's. As a key member of our Corporate Controller's Group, you will be responsible for overseeing the Company's accounting policy function, providing technical accounting guidance, and ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Accounting Policy Function
  • Identify, analyze, and document complex transactions from an accounting perspective, communicating results to relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate new FASB accounting standards, leading implementation efforts and analyzing potential implications.
  • Maintain and keep current the Company's accounting policies and policy library.
  • Provide company trainings to staff members on key accounting policy topics.
Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • Own various areas of the financial accounting, reporting, and audit process, including debt transactions, CECL calculations, and asset recoverability assessments.
  • Prepare and/or review various financial statement footnotes.
  • Lead the preparation of the quarterly unaudited and annual audited Property reports for three or more legal entities.
Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Enhance Sotheby's internal control procedures, including reviewing and preparing monthly reconciliations in Blackline.
  • Assist in preparation and review of the Sotheby's cash flow statement process and efforts to make that process more efficient.
ESG and Special Projects
  • Act as a key Corporate Controller's Group financial reporting liaison on the Company's implementation of new Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.
  • Assist in other special projects as requested.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
  2. 10+ years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years in public accounting.
  3. CPA required, active license.
  4. Strong knowledge of Financial Statement Reporting and US GAAP, with a working knowledge of IFRS preferred.
  5. Ability to stay knowledgeable about, research, and reach well-reasoned conclusions on technical accounting issues.
  6. Forward-thinking business professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Strong attention to detail, demonstrated integrity, and professional temperament.
  8. Effective communicator who can distill down and present complex accounting topics to senior executives.
  9. SAP and Hyperion/HFM experience preferred.
  10. Internal controls experience.
  11. Strong project manager skills with ability to multitask and prioritize diverse tasks.
  12. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes.
  13. Proven ability to perform under pressure and stress and to adjust plans to meet changing needs and requirements.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $175,000-$225,000, a discretionary bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
