Job Description

Job Title: Segments Accounting Policy Head

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Accounting Policy Head to join our team at Citigroup Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Segments Accounting Policy team and providing strategic guidance on accounting matters related to Citi's segments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Citi's Global Head of Accounting Policy in managing relationships with internal audit, external auditors, and regulators on accounting matters relating to Citi's segments.
  • Participating in accounting policy enforcement and ensuring that Citi's business activities are in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assisting in facilitating the proper implementation of new accounting standards, disseminating information on current accounting topics, and acting as a source to obtain recent presentations and correspond with external standard setters and regulators.
  • Advising business heads and managers regarding the accounting implications of new products and changes to existing products.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to facilitate firm-wide education of new or changing accounting requirements.
  • Researching and preparing detailed documentation to support accounting conclusions of new/modified products and complex transactions.
  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional talent for Accounting Policy and Finance overall.
  • Reviewing and approving new products and structured transactions and participating in the New Product Approval Committee process.
  • Providing oversight of the Segments Accounting Policy team, including reviewing and approving the accounting conclusions of direct reports.
  • Providing accounting training (on existing and new pronouncements) to Local Finance and Business teams.
  • Supporting with Balance Sheet Review process, and Internal and External auditors processes where applicable.
  • Participating in the development of Citi's Global accounting policies and positions.
  • Communicating significant accounting policy matters to the Global Head of Accounting Policy and senior management.

Requirements:

  • 15+ years of experience in a Big 4 Accounting Firm with a focus on banks or equivalent experience in a Policy group of a major financial institution.
  • Strong negotiation, research, analytical, organization, and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • The ability to multi-task while working on long-term projects.
  • A fast thinker/quick learner with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • The ability to work autonomously as an effective member of a dynamic team and manage change while developing staff.
  • A personality that demands excellence in all work products, motivating and holding staff accountable for performance.
  • Practical knowledge of US GAAP, specifically in regards to financial instrument accounting.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Reporting / Basel issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills, as well as the ability to work very closely with many different levels of management on the business side.
  • Excellent research, analytical, organization, and drafting skills.
  • CPA or equivalent certification required.

Education: Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred; managerial experience.
