Responsibilities:
  • Manage a variety of family law cases from start to finish, ensuring client files are meticulously maintained and organized.
  • Track important case deadlines, court dates, and key milestones throughout case timelines.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, subpoenas, and discovery responses.
  • Assist in the creation of marital settlement agreements, parenting plans, and other family law agreements.
  • Prepare trial exhibits and organize documents for hearings and trials.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, providing case updates and addressing inquiries.
  • Coordinate client meetings, consultations, and depositions efficiently.
  • Conduct legal research on family law matters, including state and federal regulations and case law.
  • Draft discovery requests, respond to discovery, and manage document production.
  • Support mediation sessions by preparing necessary documents and assisting in settlement negotiations.
  • Assist attorneys in trial preparation, including witness preparation and organizing trial materials.
  • Track billable hours, prepare client billing entries, and handle administrative tasks.
  • Uphold client confidentiality, handle sensitive information discreetly, and adhere to ethical guidelines in the legal profession.
Requirements:
  • Minimum educational requirement includes an Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies from an ABA-accredited program, with a preference for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Ideally, candidates should have 2-3 years of paralegal experience, particularly in family law, showcasing their ability to manage cases involving divorce, child custody, child support, and alimony.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis, along with familiarity with case management software, is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Familiarity with e-filing systems and court procedures is advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of family law statutes, regulations, and court procedures is necessary.
  • Candidates must possess strong knowledge of legal terminology, principles, and practices in family law.
  • Exceptional organizational skills are crucial for managing multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and case management are key requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for professional interaction with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential for handling sensitive and emotional situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required for reviewing and analyzing complex legal documents and case information.
  • Ability to conduct thorough legal research and provide clear, concise summaries is important.
  • Effective time management skills are necessary for prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines efficiently.
  • Proven track record of working independently with minimal supervision is preferred.
  • Adherence to high ethical standards, including confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive client information, is a must.
