About the Role

The Adult Representation Services (ARS) department at Hennepin County is seeking highly skilled Paralegals and/or Senior Paralegals to support attorneys in various civil proceedings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist attorneys in identifying, collecting, and evaluating information to determine the appropriateness of legal action and prepare cases.
  • Prepare, file, and serve legal documents, including letters, motions, and court orders.
  • Conduct research for attorneys on current cases and issues, gathering information from clients and witnesses.
  • Monitor case files to ensure compliance with rules and procedures.
  • Appear at trial or other court proceedings to assist attorneys with referencing and accessing pertinent documents.
Senior Paralegal Responsibilities
  • Perform the above duties, as well as assist attorneys with courtroom technology and referencing documents.
  • Draft proposals and assist in the development and implementation of administrative policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and analyze statistical data, coordinate logistics, and serve as a liaison to the Minnesota Continuing Legal Education Board.
Requirements
  • For hire as a Paralegal: four years or more of experience performing legal work, or an associate degree in paralegal studies with two or more years of experience.
  • For hire as a Paralegal, Senior: five years or more of experience as a paralegal, and one of the following: four years or more of experience performing legal work, or an associate degree in paralegal studies with certification and two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a public law office, using legal case management systems, and knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to work independently, analyze facts and evidence, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
