Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The duties of the Medical Specialty Care RN include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting assessments and triaging patients seeking non-urgent care.
  • Performing various administrative and clinical tasks.
  • Providing clinical leadership within Specialty Care Clinics.
  • Administering therapeutic interventions, including medication and intravenous fluids.
  • Maintaining professional development through continuing education and participation in nursing committees.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
  • Documenting observations, nursing actions, and relevant patient data.
  • Demonstrating leadership and innovative management in complex patient care scenarios.
  • Guiding and supporting nursing staff as a clinical expert.

  • Evaluating practices against standards and implementing improvements.
  • Engaging in quality improvement initiatives and customer service programs.
  • Adhering to all Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, as well as VHA directives.

Compensation and Benefits

Requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Non-citizens may only be considered when qualified citizens are unavailable. All candidates selected for positions requiring testing will undergo a urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Compliance with Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Candidates may be subject to a probationary period and background investigations. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all healthcare personnel.

Qualifications
Applicants pending completion of educational or licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be officially hired until all criteria are met. Basic requirements include proficiency in English, graduation from an accredited nursing program, and current registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state or territory.
