The Safe Release Support Fingerprint Specialist plays a crucial role in the Office of Refugee Resettlement's mission by facilitating the fingerprinting process for potential sponsors and their household members. This process is essential for conducting background checks that ensure the safe placement of minors into the care of their sponsors, contributing to the broader goal of family reunification.

About Global Refuge

Global Refuge, previously known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting individuals seeking safety and a new beginning in the United States. Since our inception in 1939, we have provided assistance to over 750,000 individuals, offering services that include refugee resettlement, economic empowerment, and family reunification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with shelter case managers to schedule fingerprint appointments that align with the sponsor's availability.
  • Maintain electronic records of fingerprint appointments and ensure all necessary documentation is uploaded into the case management system.
  • Identify and connect sponsors and minors with local resources for medical, mental health, educational, and legal support.
  • Conduct all required background checks in compliance with HHS/ACF/ORR standards.
  • Adhere to HHS Rules of Behavior and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Safe Release Support Program.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an undergraduate degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in office administration, customer service, child welfare, or case management is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and UC Portal.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working independently while managing priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment in sensitive situations.

Special Requirements

  • Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must successfully pass an FBI background check and a CA/N check for all states of residence in the past five years.
