Independent Living Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Independent Living Specialist to join our team at the Northeast Independent Living Program, Inc. As an integral part of our organization, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in their communities.
About the RoleThis exciting opportunity is for a skilled and dedicated professional who can provide expert support and advocacy services to individuals with disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to assist consumers in making informed choices about resources, services, and settings that meet their unique needs and preferences.
Key Responsibilities- Counseling and Support: Provide non-biased counseling on various long-term care options, responding promptly to consumer inquiries and questions.
- Information and Referral: Educate consumers about public, private, and informal services and programs available, offering guidance in making informed decisions that align with their personal goals and preferences.
- System Navigation: Assist consumers in navigating the complex system of state, federal, and community services, programs, and benefits.
- Application Support: Facilitate the application process for social security disability benefits, housing, MassHealth, assistive technology, home modifications, transportation, and other relevant services.
- Advocacy and Case Management: Engage in individual, group, or systems advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities, providing guidance and support through appeal processes.
- Education and Experience: Associate degree in a Human Service field or relevant independent living experience, along with relevant experience in Health, Social Service, Education, and/or Rehabilitation.
- Skills and Qualifications: Significant knowledge of MassHealth, its programs, services, and eligibility criteria; proficient skills with technology, including Microsoft 365, Teams, mobile devices, and applications; strategic thinking, active listening, interviewing, and advocacy skills; strong oral and written communication skills, and excellent listening skills.
- Additional Requirements: Independent travel and reliable transportation required.
- Competitive Salary: $62,000 - $72,000 per year, depending on experience.
