Job Title: Certified Addiction Counselor

The Ark of DC is seeking a Certified Addiction Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will work closely with consumers to engage them in the decision-making process and assist them with accessing the appropriate level of care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct confidential, quality assessments using the appropriate level of care.
  • Use strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches to work collaboratively with consumers and internal and external entities.
  • Provide clinical consultation to referral sources and other entities.
  • Collect and review referral information and consult with others as needed to support coordination of services and scheduling of resident interviews.
  • Collect information from collateral resources to aid in determining diagnosis and need for additional recovery support services.
  • Make referrals to the most appropriate programs and agencies in an effort to assist consumers in accessing the right level of support to best meet their needs.
  • Model and support health and wellness activities and healthy coping skills for consumers.
  • Complete paperwork requirements and maintain quality, up-to-date clinical records.
  • Consult with Medical Director, Clinical Care Coordinator and other program team members to ensure quality assurance for consumer care.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of other drug and alcohol treatment agencies and programs, and a list of resources that can be shared with consumers.
  • Provide psycho-educational groups to consumers, the team and organization as needed.
  • Participate in all assigned meetings, staff development, and training as required.
Requirements:
  • Certified Addictions Counselor, required.
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Human Services and four years of experience in an alcohol or other drug or mental health setting preferred.
  • Combination of comparable skills, experience, and education.
  • Understanding and supportive of a trauma-informed system of care.
  • Strong interpersonal, engagement, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Ability to support the organization's mission and philosophy and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity and organizational harmony.
  • Value for and the ability to deliver excellent consumer services.
  • Self-directed and flexible with the ability to meet the needs of the program and the residents.
  • Experience and confidence identifying and implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Experience working in crisis setting with individuals and families.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Program development, evaluation, solid organizational skills, and public speaking.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the Agency's mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances.
