The Role

We are seeking a thoughtful and dynamic Director/Senior Director of Testing to join our team. The ideal candidate will help shape our physical sciences testing efforts through leadership, ideation of new scientific campaigns, and establishment of critical capabilities and valuable workflows.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of scientists and engineers across all testing efforts
  • Troubleshoot workflows and instruments related to testing efforts
  • Contribute to the ideation of new scientific campaigns to bring new materials for sustainability into the world
  • Execute testing steps in scientific campaigns
  • Work closely with Product Managers to design ideal testing workflows and clearly communicate testing results
  • Troubleshoot workflows and instruments related to testing efforts
  • Provide expertise to Product Managers to support the development of target product profiles, updating testing capabilities as needed to deliver product candidates
  • Collaborate with Synthesis, Characterization, Software, ML, and Automation/Engineering teams to ensure data flow from all characterization capabilities
  • Collaborate with Physical Sciences leadership to identify consultants to support new capability builds
  • Project manage the build of experiment capabilities and their deployment in science campaigns
  • Manage testing CAPEX, including vendor relationships and budget requests
  • Assist in testing strategy and planning for new and existing automated and autonomous workflows with deep integration of AI
  • Demonstrate clear and thoughtful communication
Qualifications
  • Industry experience
  • Experience with diverse types of functional testing over multiple material types
  • Experience building and managing high-performance teams
  • Experience building automated systems as part of a team
  • Preferred qualifications include knowledge of standards like ASTM, experience developing a lead into a candidate or bringing a product to market, experience developing high-throughput proxy measurements for functional properties of materials, understanding of regulatory requirements, experience testing materials in extreme environments, experience with material assembly or device integration, experience with mechanical testing, and clear decision-making skills

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with execution and getting into the weeds on a regular basis
  • Organized with strong project management skills
  • Data-focused with experience dominated by experimental knowledge and a leaning towards data science and computation
