Urban Design Program Manager

Columbia University seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Urban Design. This key role will be responsible for managing the daily activities of the Urban Design Program, ensuring compliance with University and GSAPP policies and procedures.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Administration- Oversee the administrative and human resources functions of the Urban Design Program, including personnel management and faculty support.
- Work closely with the Program Director and Senior Associate Dean to explain University benefits and policies, and process documentation and faculty appointments.
- Ensure casual and support staff compliance with University human resources policies, including staff oversight, timesheet submissions, and time off requests.
- Prepare program materials for duplication and internal online circulation, including program outlines and faculty curriculum materials.
- Assist students with GSAPP course registration, working with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to ensure all UD students take required courses.
- Maintain regularly scheduled weekly office hours and be responsive to student questions.
- Assist with graduation issues and logistics, working with the Program Director and Associate Dean of Student Affairs to certify successful student completion of all courses required for the UD degree.
- Prevent overdrafts, recommend spending levels, and work with the Finance Office to resolve financial problems.
- Monitor program expenses and ensure compliance with University and GSAPP policies and procedures.
- Serve as the main point of contact for faculty and liaison between UD faculty and Finance.
- Coordinate the admissions process for the UD program, working with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and staff.
- Manage application readers and admissions database via the SLATE program used by GSAPP.
- Coordinate admissions decisions with the Program Director.
- Work closely with the Program Director and Career Services to assist with career counseling and organize career education workshops.
- Establish and maintain relationships with prospective employers, including alumni, to encourage the hiring of students.
- Work with Career Services and the Development and Alumni Offices to keep their database of Alumni speakers, mentors, and contacts up to date.
- Work with GSAPP's Communications Office to ensure consistent messaging and outreach, including website presence of the MSAUD Program.
- Maintain and supervise the Administrative Assistant for communications with all students and faculty.
- Organize twice-yearly program newsletters that include information and updates about studio, seminar, and faculty activities.

- Assist with the Urban Design alumni engagement, events, and cultivation, working under the direction of the Assistant Directors of Alumni Relations and Alumni Fund.
- Work collaboratively to manage Urban Design event planning and coordinate with communications, rooms, event management, and AV staff.
Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent, with three to five years of relevant experience. A Master's degree is preferred, as is work experience in the field of Urban Design and an academic setting.
